How to write a fair performance review
Evidence for every rating
A rating without an example is an opinion. For each score, note one specific moment from the period. It makes the conversation easier and protects you if a rating is questioned.
Look at the whole period
Recent events loom largest. Skim your one-on-one notes from across the period before you rate, so a strong first half or a rough last month doesn’t decide the whole review.
Compare across the team
Use the team view to spot rating drift: if everyone is a 4, the scale isn’t telling anyone anything. Check that people doing similar work at a similar level get similar scores.
